Link to event here: February Meeting - A Secular Basis for Ethics

Hosted by: Humanist Association of London and Area

Topic: Christian and Secular Ethics: Past, Present, and Future

with Dr. John Thorp

Dr. John Thorp, professor of philosophy at UWO, will speak about the origins of Christian ethics in secular Neoplatonist philosophy, the rupture between Christian and secular ethics during the mid-20th century, and the implications of the stupendous growth of neuroscience for the future development of secular ethics. This is a topic of particular interest to Humanists, addressing the question of how we can have a well-grounded ethics and morality without belief in a god.
